Top Photo Favs of 2017
With the start of a new year, comes time for reflection on the year that has passed. And although 2017 is over, the memories I captured on my camera for my clients will last forever. I want to dedicate this to all the wonderful high school and college senior clients I had the honor of photographing this past year.
Below are my Top Photo Favs of 2017 from each senior session (in no particular order):
Five years ago when I first started my professional photography business, I never would have imagined it would take me to where it has today.
- This is my full time job, and I couldn’t imaging doing anything else. I am so thankful that every day, I still wake up excited about the work day ahead.
- I focus my business exclusively on creating portraits of teens, with a specialty in high school senior photography.
- I moved into a new larger office in downtown Puyallup! I was happy to have an office to begin with, but now that it’s twice the size of my old one, I now have an even more comfortable and inviting environment to meet with my clients.
I know that I owe all of this growth, and love for my business, to my clients and their families. Thank you for a great 2017, and I am looking forward to another wonderful year ahead!

Graham Senior Photos Mount Rainier
with Callie DeHut
“When I was considering where I wanted the location of my senior photos to be, I knew that I wanted it to represent myself.
Adventure, athletics, academics, community and the outdoors are key, fundamental elements of who I am, and I thought there was no better place to reflect them than Mt. Rainier, my backyard away from home. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do, and the mountain had that. It was something that I had the blessing of seeing everyday from the sky bridge at GK.
It’s a symbol of strength, power, and grace, and a beautiful reminder to try and display those attributes in my daily life. Rainier, to me, was such a core and exquisite part of my life and was therefore the ideal location for my senior photo session. It was the perfect time of year, too; the trees were green, the air was warm, and the wildflowers were all in bloom. I think that the wildflowers were my favorite part of my session. They were scattered across the ground, bright explosions of color mingling with the green of the lush mountainside, and I instantly knew that this was going to be the most quintessential setting I could ask for. And it was. I am super happy with all of the photos, and most of them ended up being my favorites from the entire shoot…
I would recommend being a senior model for Tara to anyone. I’ve gained so many invaluable experiences with all of the models from the different array of shoots that Tara offered, and they were some of the highlights of my last year. I know that my experience was something that I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else; it was so interactive and enjoyable, the girls were all amazing, and Tara was always bubbly, excited, and a total blast. She made everything incredibly fun and comfortable, and only had the models best interests in mind. I wouldn’t trade those experiences, or the new skills I acquired—not being afraid to try new things, how to be silly with other people, and how step outside of my comfort zone—for anything.”

Puyallup Senior Model Program/ Makayla’s Experience
The Tara Giles Senior Model Program was an experience I’ll remember forever.
Being a model and getting to participate in all the group photo shoots, and even your own senior photo shoot, are memories you’ll have not only throughout your senior year, but the rest of your life.
My own personal senior photo session was shot at Owens Beach & Point Defiance Park. I chose these locations because they offered two very different sceneries, while also being super close so I had more time to take my photos.
I was nervous at first because I’m very particular in what my photos look like, whether it being to what side my hair is parted on or making sure my outfit and makeup looks great. Tara made my experience extremely easy and super fun. I was able to relax and be myself, which made my pictures turn out amazing!
Working as a model with Tara gave her a feel for how I like having my hair, or what I’m looking for in a photograph. This was super nice, because if it was someone else taking my photos, they wouldn’t have noticed small details like this. I love how my photos turned out, I love how she gave the option for so many outfit changes so I had variety in my photos and I also love how the photos made me feel after. I felt very confident and my self image also improved.
I would recommend anyone and everyone to be a Tara Giles Senior Model. Not only for the memories you’ll have forever, or all the great people you’ll meet along the way, but for yourself. The program has overall not only given me amazing photographs that I’ll have for the rest of my life, but also has made me more confident in who I am. Tara does a great job capturing YOU and your personality. She really makes sure that you are expressed in all your photos.” ~ Makayla Blackburn
Amanda’s Senior Model Experience
“I was full of questions and doubts, but looking back on my experience
I have learned so much about self-image and how to interact with other people,
I could not be happier with my decision to join this team”
“Just over a year ago I could not tell anyone the different types of makeup, let alone how to apply it. If I made it to school not wearing a hoodie and jeans a minor miracle had occurred. Plus, I’m pretty sure my hair had a permanent indent of where my ponytail sat. When I joined the Tara Giles Photography senior model team, I was full of questions and doubts, but looking back on my experience I have learned so much about self-image and how to interact with other people, I could not be happier with my decision to join this team. Also, the pictures I got were truly one of a kind!
I believe without Tara Giles in my life I would more or less be the same person I was. Now I can proudly say my wardrobe has grown as well as my interest in actually making myself look good for other people. I loved getting to “dress up” and learn how to pose in front of the camera, while making everything look as natural and candid as possible.
I was fortunate to have two of my best friends join the team with me. On top of that I made so many more friends and connections by having the opportunity to have an hour or two to enjoy the people I was with while getting to take fun and energetic pictures.
It was so much fun being a part of this program and I would not trade it for the world. I loved all the things I have learned about myself and the world around me. I strongly recommend anyone who is thinking about joining to take the leap and do it, you won’t regret being a part of the Tara Giles Photography Senior Model Team.” ~ Amanda Cohen
